Wings Etc. Topeka mixes mild sauce and lime-pepper rub to win best ‘twisted’ wing at annual Wing Fling festival

TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 20, 2022)— Take Wings Etc.’s jumbo wings, add mild sauce, coat them in lime-pepper rub, and what do you get? As Wing Etc. Topeka franchisee Dave Clingenpeel found out, Topeka’s “Twisted Wing King” championship. The unique creation was recently crowned “king” at the annual Topeka Wing Fling.

“There wasn’t really a description on what the ‘Twisted Wing’ category meant,” said Clingenpeel. “Many of our team members enjoy taking our mild sauce and adding the lime-pepper rub. So we decided to enter the staff-made creation, and judges loved it.”

Topeka’s annual Wing Fling was recently held at the Stormont Vail Event Center, where hundreds of chicken wing fans gathered to enjoy the one-day festival celebrating hot wings, cold drinks, and friendly competition. Attendees had the opportunity to try as many wings as they wanted, and a panel of judges were on-hand to pick the best wing in each category. Both national and local wing brands were present.

Wings Etc. Topeka, now in their second year, is no stranger to chicken wing awards. The location has been named Topeka’s “Best Chicken Wings” according to readers of the Topeka Capital-Journal two years running.

Clingenpeel said he is grateful the community continues to show their love and support for Wings Etc.
