Wings Etc. sees 30 percent increase in to-go orders on Super Bowl Sunday
The sports bar’s award-winning wings account for 50 percent of sales that day
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Feb. 5, 2024)— The Big Game means big growth in to-go sales for Wings Etc., Inc., franchisor of the Wings Etc. Grill & Pub sports bar brand.
In particular, Wings Etc. sees a dramatic leap in to-go sales of its award-winning jumbo wings and boneless wings on Super Bowl Sunday.
Fans of the brand’s 21 signature sauces and rubs have traditionally made Wings Etc. an integral part of their Super Bowl festivities, and this year is predicted to be no different when the NFL heads to Las Vegas on February 11. A look at to-go orders at Wings Etc. by the numbers:
50
Fifty percent of Wings Etc. sales on Super Bowl Sunday 2023 were to-go orders. On the Sunday before, to-go orders constituted 20 percent of sales.
87
Food made up 87 percent of Wings Etc. sales on Super Bowl Sunday in 2023. Food constituted 79 percent of sales the Sunday prior.
49
Wings made up 49 percent of sales at Wings Etc. on Super Bowl Sunday 2023. On the Sunday prior, wings were 30 percent of sales.
The National Chicken Council predicted in 2023 that Americans would consume a record-breaking 1.45 billion chicken wings during Super Bowl LVII weekend. This figure represented an increase of two percent from 2022’s report, the equivalent of 84 million more wings.
“We’re honored to be a major part of our fans’ Super Bowl parties,” says Wings Etc. CEO Rob Hensmann. “Our good food, great times philosophy aligns perfectly with consumers plans for their Big Game gatherings.”
To prepare for the day, Wings Etc. initiates a system of checks and balances for the front- and back-of-house to ensure to-go orders are timely and accurate even with the increased volume. One to two weeks out, stores review their internal sales reporting to boost orders of regular and boneless wings to accommodate large orders. They also prep to-go sauces. Stores often schedule extra staff to manage incoming calls and guest check-out.
The influx of orders begins on Friday before the Big Game. The bulk of the orders come in Sunday morning, and Big Game frenzy often builds until kickoff.
